One More CES Highlight

I missed one highlight from CES in yesterday’s post. Namely, the 150-inch television from Panasonic. With televisions like this on the horizon, I predict a weakening in movie theater ticket sales.

  1. Haven’t they already been weakening over most of the past decade?

  2. That is true. With movies generally sucking over the past few years, and with the rise of Netflix, things have been going south for theaters in general. I guess I should have said “a continued weakening.” I wrote this post in a meeting, so I was only half-attentive to what I was typing.

Now that I think about it, I’m not entirely certain many people could get a television like this into their house. Most doorways aren’t nearly 150 inches tall. Not to mention the fact that you would have to sit 20 feet away (or more) to see the thing clearly. Clearly, houses will need to be modified for this technological achievement.

  3. I’m guessing 150 inches is diagonal, right? These things are always diagonal because that gives them a bigger number. If the aspect ratio is 9 by 16, it should be about 73.5 inches tall. A standard door is 80 inches I think.

  4. Good point. I hadn’t thought of the fact that it might be a diagonal dimension. It’s still a ridiculously large television.
